The Ford Mustang has always been built with power and speed in mind. As technology continues to improve, so does the potential for speed. The seventh generation of the Mustang made its debut with the latest 2024 models, and it did it without sacrificing power or speed.

How Fast Can the Ford Mustang Go?

The EcoBoost got an actual boost from 2023 to 2024. The 2023 model’s top speed clocked in at 121 miles per hour, while the 2024 version gets up to 145 miles per hour. The comparison between zero and 60 miles per hour shows less change. The 2023 EcoBoost clocked in at five seconds, while the 2024 version gets it done in 4.9 seconds. The EcoBoost’s focus isn’t on speed like other Mustang models but more on fuel efficiency.

All 2024 Mustang EcoBoost models have a 10-speed automatic transmission and a 2.3L 4-cylinder engine with 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft torque. In 2023, you could still choose an EcoBoost with a six-speed manual transmission, but the only way to get more horsepower, minimally, was in the 2023 EcoBoost High-Performance Package, which had 330 horsepower.

Mustang GT

The 2024 Mustang GT holds steady over the 2023 version, with a continued top speed of 155 miles per hour. In tests, the 2024 model loses a bit of time when it goes from zero to 60 miles per hour, coming in at 4.3 seconds. The 2023 version got there in 3.8 seconds.

The GT’s engine has not changed much from 2023 to 2024. It still has a 5.0L V8 engine with 450 horsepower and up to 420 lb-ft of torque, available with either a 6-speed manual transmission or the optional 10-speed automatic transmission.

Mustang Dark Horse

The Dark Horse is new in 2024 and replaces the Mustang Mach 1 while still offering plenty of power and speed. The Dark Horse can go from zero to 60 miles per hour in 3.7 seconds. Thanks to the 5.0L Coyote V8 engine with 500 horsepower and 418 lb-ft torque, its top speed has been recorded at 166 miles per hour.

2024 Dark Horse vs. 2023 Mach 1

The Mach 1, phased out in 2023, took 4.2 seconds to go from zero to 60. Depending on its package, it topped between 166 and 168 miles per hour. The Mach 1 engine is identical to the new Dark Horse but with 470 horsepower instead, which helps explain the slightly slower zero-to-60 timing. If you can get your hands on some of the last Mach 1 models, you’ll have a powerful and speedy Mustang. No matter if you get behind the wheel of the Dark Horse or Mach 1 Mustang, you’re definitely in for a treat with this sports car!
