Ford Expedition Trim Levels & Features
2026 Ford Expedition Trim Levels at a Glance
- There are four Ford Expedition trim levels: Active, Platinum, Tremor, and King Ranch.
- The Ford Expedition MAX is a larger version of the SUV with three of the same trims. Drivers cannot access the Tremor trim, as that off-road-focused configuration better fits a smaller wheelbase.
- All three other levels (Active, Platinum, and King Ranch) feature straightforward upgrades in technology, though the Platinum does have access to the high-output engine that's standard on Tremor models.
- You can try all four models, and their MAX siblings, at DARCARS Ford of Lanham.
Ford Expedition Trim Levels Explained
There are four Ford Expedition trim levels in 2026: starting at the Active, then climbing through the Platinum, Tremor, and King Ranch levels. These upgrade packages augment your three-row Ford SUV in substantial ways, including a 360-degree lighting arrangement, a 22-speaker sound system, and (in the case of the Tremor) off-roading elements like a higher ground clearance and skid plates. But which trim level is right for you and your family?
At DARCARS Ford of Lanham, we're proud to put drivers behind the wheel of the Ford SUV that matches their needs. Before you visit our lot in Lanham, MD, let's see the highlights of each vehicle.
Ford Expedition Trim Levels in Order
There are four trim levels for the Ford Expedition. They are:
- Active: The baseline Ford Expedition, though it's far from basic. A 24-inch panoramic screen adorns the front, while Ford Co-Pilot360™ Assist 2.0 can guide you between vehicles and to safety. A 400-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 ensures your ride feels responsive, whether you utilize the standard 4x2 or available 4x4 drivetrain. With the latter drivetrain and a Max Trailering Package upgrade, the Active can achieve a 9,600-pound tow rating.1
- Platinum: The first upgrade has several distinct advantages. It comes with standard 4x4, has access to a high-output version of the 3.5-liter V-6 that makes 440 horsepower, has 360-degree zone lighting, and leather-trimmed seats with front-row heating/ventilation and second-row heating.
- Tremor: This off-road-centric trim level comes with standard protection for your underbody, a high-output V-6 that can generate 510 pound-feet of torque, a minimum running ground clearance of 10.6 inches, and 33-inch tires that guarantee a level of confidence on any adventure. However, this is the only trim that cannot achieve a tow rating of 9,600 pounds – instead, its maximum trailer weight is 9,300 pounds.1
- King Ranch: The final, most luxurious trim level. The King Ranch offers a 22-speaker premium sound system, incredibly comfortable upholstery thanks to Mesa Del Rio leather, and a one-year subscription to BlueCruise hands-free highway driving.
Here's how each model looks side-by-side in our Ford Expedition trim levels comparison:
Three Ford Expedition trim levels share an exterior, with a 209.9-inch length, 94.6-inch width, and 78.1-inch height. The Tremor is just a bit taller. It has up to 108.5 cubic feet of storage space with both rear rows folded down, perfect for nearly any activity.
What Are the Ford Expedition MAX Trim Levels?
The Ford Expedition MAX is much longer than its standard variant: at 221.7 inches, the MAX is the perfect pick for a grown family who needs extra space for sports events, packing for college, and anything else you may need. Notably, this version of the Ford SUV has nearly all the same Ford Expedition trims: Active, Platinum, and King Ranch. Most of the features are the same on the larger model, too. However, there is no Ford Expedition MAX Tremor. If you want to go off-road, we recommend selecting the standard Tremor model.
There are several other differences between these two Ford Expedition models. Including:
- Tow Capacity: The Expedition MAX has a maximum of 9,000 pounds of towing capacity across all trim levels, slightly less than the standard version.
- Cargo Capacity: Instead, the Expedition MAX prioritizes cargo space behind the third row, and has 36.1 cubic feet of storage area without folding any rows down – compared to the 21.6 cubic feet for the standard wheelbase.
Ford Expedition Packages To Look Out For
When building your own model or shopping our inventory, keep your eyes out for:
- Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package: Available on the Active and standard otherwise, this unlocks the maximum towing capacity.
- Stealth Appearance Package: Blacked-out elements give your Expedition a more subtle exterior.
- Ford Co-Pilot360™ Active 2.0 Package: Standard across the entire Expedition lineup, this adds additional driver-assistance features to bolster your confidence without needing to upgrade.

However, we understand that not every family needs a three-row SUV. Our team can help you shop our new Ford SUVs and find your preferred size. Most families could use a three-row vehicle, but the Ford Escape offers a commuter-ready model with still-exceptional cabin space, while the Ford Bronco can handle extremely tough trails and hillsides.
